Stay Close, Stay Alert
Drowning is the number one cause of deaths in small children. The Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that each year 300 children under the age of 5 drown in swimming pools each year. Drowning is one cause of death that is completely avoidable.
When it comes to children and swimming pools, you must stay close by and you must stay alert at all times. Here are some tips to pool safely with kids.
- Always watch children around the swimming pool
- Never leave children unattended in the area of a pool or spa
- Keep a charged phone close to the pool at all times
- Check the pool first if a child is missing

As the owner of a swimming pool, do you have critical water safety skills? A responsible pool owner knows water safety begins with them.
- Make sure you know how to swim
- Make sure your children learn to swim

Equip Your Pool Properly
Make sure you have the right equipment at your pool. To avoid entrapment drowning, the main drain cover should be of the proper style, be installed correctly, and replaced when damaged. As part of your regular Newport Coast pool service, Beachside Pool Service can inspect your drain cover to make sue it is safe.
Fencing. Maintain a fence around your pool that is at least 4 feet high. This is especially important if you don’t have a privacy fence around your yard. Fences should be equipped with self-latching gates.
Alarms. If you have children, make sure you have an alarm installed on the doors leading outside to the pool area. This can alert you when a door has been opened. If you have a security alarm, it can be programmed to perform this function.
Proper Cover. Make sure your pool or spa cover fits and operates properly. Beachside Pool Service can replace your spa or hot tub cover with a custom cover that fits properly. If the idea of a child trapped under a pool cover frightens you, then let Beachside Pool Service introduce you to the liquid pool cover. This product can be added as part of your regular Newport Coast pool service and will assist with water loss due to evaporation and help keep your water at a comfortable swimming temperature.
Lifesaving Equipment. Make sure lifesaving equipment like reaching poles and swim rings are close and easily accessible.
