Pool Tile Cleaning Is Not a DIY Job

Your pool tile is a major contributor to the beauty of your pool. Many pool owners pay top dollar to get the right color and finish to achieve just the right visual impact. Pool tile is what gives your pool the “wow” factor. Whether you selected ceramic tile or glass tile, there will come a time when you will need a good pool tile cleaning.

Over time, you pool tile will get a build up of hard water deposits, calcium, and lime. You may see a white haze or some white, yellow, or green crusty looking deposits right at the tile line. Because these deposits are rough, they give algae a perfect environment on which to stick.

These deposits can make even the most stunning pool look like a cheap mess. You might be tempted to run down to the local home improvement store to find something to do the pool tile cleaning job yourself. That would be a mistake.

Removing scale, lime, calcium and other hard water deposits might not be a difficult job, but it is difficult to do it without harming the surface of the tile. That home improvement store will be more than happy to sell you a pumice stone that will remove those deposits and destroy your tile. The harsh abrasive will scratch and etch your tile. Once the tile surface is no longer smooth, it will collect deposits much more quickly and result in the need for more frequent pool tile cleaning. It will become a cycle of cleaning, damaging the tile, and the damaged tile quickly in need of a good cleaning again.

For pool tile cleaning in Orange County, you need to trust Beachside Pool Service.  We know that not all pool tile should be cleaned the same.

Ceramic Pool Tile Cleaning

If you have a ceramic tile, Beachside Pool Service can remove those deposits without damaging the tile using a process known as bead blasting. Bead blasting is similar to pressure washing. However, the media ejected from the pressure cleaner is not water. Instead ultra small, perfectly round glass beads are used. Because the beads are smooth and round instead of angular, they will remove the deposits without harming the tile. In addition, the smooth surface of the glass bead will leave a smooth finish on the tile, making it shine. After hitting the tile, the small glass beads fall back into the pool where they can be retrieved with a vacuum. Because they are made from glass, they will not alter the pH of the water. Glass is also chemically inert, so your water chemistry will not be affected by the beads. In addition, blasting with glass beads is an eco-friendly method of pool tile cleaning because the glass beads can be used multiple times.

 Glass Pool Tile Cleaning

However, bead blasting can not be used for all pool tile cleaning. Glass pool tile has become much more popular in the last few years. The glass gleams in the sunlight and can give an almost jewel-like impression. However, glass pool tile is much softer than ceramic tile and requires special cleaning methods.

You can trust Beachside Pool Service to gently clean your glass pool tile with a soda blast method. This method of pool tile cleaning is similar to bead blasting, but the media is changed. Instead of glass beads, Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) is used. This media is harder than the build-up but softer than the glass tile. Because the media is soft, it is not recommended for ceramic tile, but it is perfect for delicate glass tile.
